EVANSTON, Ill. -- Freshman Tammy Williams (El Dorado Springs, Mo./Osceola) has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week after posting a huge weekend at the Worth Invitational in Fullerton, Calif.

Williams batted .643 (9-of-14) in four games, scoring eight runs with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.143 slugging percentage. She launched the first two home runs of her career Saturday in style, blasting the first as the leadoff batter against No. 3 Tennessee and its two-time NFCA first-team All-American and two-time SEC Pitcher of the Year Monica Abbott.

She then led off Northwestern's game later that night with her second home run of the day against No. 6 Stanford. Williams concluded her weekend by going 3-for-3 with three runs, two steals and an RBI in a 7-0 win over Texas Tech.

Williams currently leads the Big Ten with 16 runs scored and six doubles on the season. She also ranks among the league leaders in hits, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, total bases and slugging percentage.

The honor is the first of Williams' career and the second for Northwestern this season. Senior Kristen Amegin (West Sacramento, Calif./Elk Grove) earned the award after the second weekend of the season.
