EVANSTON, Ill.-Northwestern hosts No. 9 Ohio State (21-4, 10-4) Wednesday night in the first of two crucial games this week. The Wildcats are sitting at .500 (13-13) and ultimately need two wins this week to solidify their postseason chances, though a win Wednesday against ninth-ranked Ohio State alone would significantly increase their odds.
Ohio State, meanwhile, can clinch at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship with a win. But the Wildcats, led by seniors Vedran Vukusic (19.6 ppg) and Mohamed Hachad (11.7), will try and delay those plans. NU has been giant-killers at home of late, knocking off then-first place Iowa back on Feb. 8 and Wisconsin, one game out of first place in the Big Ten, last Thursday. After tonight, the Wildcats finish the regular season at 7 p.m. Saturday against Minnesota.
Wednesday is the 151st meeting in the all-time series between the Wildcats and Buckeyes. Ohio State leads 106-44 and have won the last 12 meetings. The Wildcats and last defeated the Buckeyes in 1998, a 70-62 victory in Evanston. Ohio State owns a 63-14 lead in games played in Columbus and 43-30 advantage in Evanston.
