Box Score

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Laura Glassanos scored five goals, Aly Josephs scored four and Kristen Kjellman added three goals and three assists to lead the top-ranked and defending national champion Northwestern Wildcats to a 16-9 victory over No. 16 Hofstra today at James M. Shuart Stadium. The win extends NU's winning streak to 23 games dating to the start of last season.

Unlike the game at Maryland, the Wildcats jumped all over the Pride from the outset. Josephs got Northwestern started just over two minutes into the game when she converted a Meredith Frank (one goals, three assists) feed for a 1-0 Wildcat lead. Kjellman, the reigning ALC Player of the Week, scored unassisted at 26:17 and then assisted on goals by Glassanos and Frank to give Northwestern a 4-0 lead at the 22:24 mark.

Hofstra midfielder Jamie Rabuano scored Hofstra's first goal with McGrath getting the assist at 22:03. Glassanos and Hofstra's Kimberly Hillier then traded goals before a three-goal run by Northwestern gave it an 8-2 lead with 4:22 left in the half. McGrath would close out the first half scoring off a pass from Hillier with 48 seconds left to make the score 8-3 at the half.

Northwestern kept the pressure on in the second, scoring two of the first three goals to take a 10-4 lead. The Pride then scored two unanswered goals, one by Hillier and one by senior defender Jaime Irving to cut the deficit to four, 10-6.

But Josephs, Kjellman and Glassanos struck again, scoring consecutive goals to put Northwestern up 13-6 with 10 minutes remaining, squashing Hofstra's comeback attempt. The two teams traded goals the rest of the way.

Northwestern goalkeeper Morgan Lathrop earned the win after making 12 saves, while sophomore keeper Maisie Osteen made nine saves in a losing effort.

Senior Lindsey Munday added two goals and two assists.

NU is back in action at Noon CT this Sunday when they take on Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J.
