EVANSTON, Ill.--Top-ranked Northwestern picked up an 18-3 win today at Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. The win extends NU's winning streak to 24 games, the longest current streak in the nation. Sarah Albrecht and Kristen Kjellman each had four goals for the 'Cats who improve to 3-0 on the year. Rutgers drops to 0-1.

The Scarlet Knights had no match for Northwestern's firepower. The 'Cats dominated from the outset, leading 11-0 at halftime and scored the first 17 goals of the game before Rutgers finally got on the board with eight minutes remaining.

Northwestern showered the Rutgers defense with 35 shots to 14 and held a 24-2 shot advantage in the first half alone. NU dominated the draw controls 15-3.

Freshman Hilary Bowen opened the scoring with goals in the fifth and eighth minutes of the game, the first goals of her Wildcat career. Both were unassisted. The Wildcats then followed Bowen with five more unassisted goals-two from Albrecht and senior Lindsey Munday and one from Kjellman to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead just past the midway point of the first period.

Still in the first half, NU continued to score at will as Meredith Frank found fellow Westwood native Kjellman for her second goal of the game. Aly Josephs' unassisted goal at the 12:08 mark made it 9-0 before Kjellman found the back of the net two more times before halftime with assists from Munday and Laura Glassanos.

Munday, Josephs, Albrecht (2), Frank, Glassanos and Jenny Bush all tallied goals in the second half.

Katie Batiuk scored all three goals for the Scarlet Knights in the final minutes.

Morgan Lathrop played the first 31 minutes in goal, recording one save without allowing a goal. Abby Bangser played the final 29 minutes and recorded three saves.

The Wildcats open up at home next Saturday against Ohio. Game time is 1 p.m.
