TULSA, Okla. -- Northwestern's men's tennis team took three matches on the day, but fell to the 52nd-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane 5-2 Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) and Juan Gomez (Mexico City, Mexico/South Florida) each won singles matches for the Wildcats.

In doubles, Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) and Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) took Northwestern's lone doubles win, topping Will Gray and Federico Soriano 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Tulsa's Arnau Brugues and Andy Conelly topped Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./University of Nebraska-Independent Study H.S.) and Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrügge) 8-6 at No. 2 doubles while Aleksander Charpantidis and Ross Cunningham beat Gomez and Lock 8-4 at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point for Tulsa.

In singles, Lock fell in the first set, but responded by winning the second in a tiebreaker and recorded a 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over Ricardo Soriano at No. 2 singles.

Gomez followed suit by taking his match at No. 3 singles. Gomez topped Charpantidia in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 1 singles, Tempke fell to Brugues 6-3, 6-3.

No. 73 Diego Camacho topped Dwyer at the No. 4 singles spot 7-5, 6-1.

Christian rallied to take his second set in a tiebreaker versus Gray, but fell in a tight supertiebreaker 6-1, 7-6, 1-0 (11-9).

Schaechterle rounded out the action for Northwestern by dropping his match to Fredrico Soriano at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-1.

"Tonight was a real battle," head coach Paul Torricelli said. "The doubles was extrmely close and might have been the difference once again for us. Willy's match was some of the best tennis I've seen this year. Tulsa will be a top 30 team before too long. I was very impressed."

With the loss, Northwestern falls to 4-5 this season. The Wildcats return to action at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 as they face Oral Roberts.
