EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Keylor Chan announced today the signing of a trio of future Wildcats to National Letters of Intent. Elyse Glab (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection), Naomi Johnson (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) and Lindsay Kresch (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) comprise the incoming Class of 2011 that will matriculate to Evanston in the fall of 2007.
"This class has the most experience and success on the club level that we have ever had here at Northwestern," Chan said. "They will bring that winning attitude to our program and every one of them will compete for a spot on the floor right away. This group also is one of our most well-rounded, and coming on the heels of a tremendous 2006 group, the future of Northwestern volleyball is bright."
Glab is the one of the nation's highest-rated setters, coming in at No. 41 overall on prepvolleyball.com's "Senior Aces" list. A four-time All-Conference selection and the Chicago Girls Catholic Athletic League Player of the Year last year, she also has played eight years of club with Sports Performance, finishing fifth at both the USAV and AAU National tournaments in 2006.
"Elyse has the potential to become of the top setters in the nation," Chan said. "She is the first true setter we have recruited into our program, and she played for a very strong and successful Sports Performance club. She will have the opportunity to come in and compete to play right away."
Johnson was the starting middle on the champion AAU and U.S. Junior Olympic 17 open teams with her club, Northern Lights. A National Merit Commended Scholar, she also was a Minnesota All-State selection in 2006.
"Naomi has been playing at such a high level all of her life, being trained in a very strong club program," Chan said. "She is a true competitor and a prototypical Big Ten middle blocker who will bring winning experience to our program."
Kresch earned the No. 61 ranking on the prepvolleyball.com "Senior Aces" list, and is a two-time Pennsylvania All-State honoree. She led her high school to its first-ever conference championship and earned a No. 14 finish in the country with her club team, Renaissance.
"Lindsay is an outside hitter who has been playing with her club's 18 team since she was a freshman," Chan said. "That experience will help us in the area of having an outside who can play all the way around. She is very much in the mold of a Lindsay Anderson or Courtnie Paulus."
