Northwestern Blows Past Indiana, 3-0

EVANSTON, Ill. -- On Senior Night Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena, Northwestern came out and thumped Indiana to send its trio of seniors out as winners in a sweep, 30-21, 30-16, 30-21.
Prior to the match, the Wildcats honored their three seniors: Lauren Greenwood (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood), Cassie McLaughlin (Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) and Julie Purcell (Louisville, Ky./Assumption).
With the win, Northwestern improves to 14-13 overall on the season, 8-10 in the conference. The Wildcats have won their last five meetings with the Hoosiers. The loss drops Indiana to 10-19 on the year, 1-17 in the Big Ten.
Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) killed her first four attacks and Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee) terminated her first two swings to help NU to a 12-5 lead and cause an Indiana timeout. That lead grew to 17-5 as Paulus drilled her next three attempts to begin the match a perfect 5-for-5. When NU's advantage hit 10, 22-12, the Hoosiers used their second timeout.
Northwestern rode out its lead, taking game one, 30-21, on a kill from Brittney Aldridge (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire). Anderson and Paulus both finished with seven kills in the first game.
A pair of kills from Anderson and one each from Paulus and Chelsy Hyser (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) helped Northwestern to a 6-0 run to start game two and cause a quick Indiana timeout.
The Wildcats continued to hit the snot out of the ball, recording 13 kills en route to a 19-7 lead that forced the Hoosiers' second timeout of the game. Northwestern eventually ran away with the game two win, 30-16.
Anderson compiled seven kills in game two, while Paulus, Aldridge and Purcell all added three. The Wildcats hit .500 (19-3-32) as a team in the second game.
A 4-0 spurt early in the third featuring a Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) ace, a solo block from Hyser and a kill by Paulus gave the Wildcats a 12-5 lead and forced a Hoosier timeout.
Northwestern did not let up on the gas for a single point, causing Indiana's second timeout when it created an 11-point lead, 24-13. The Wildcats went on win the game, 30-21, on a kill from McLaughlin, clinching the match, 3-0.
NU hit .351 (55-16-111) as a team in the match. Anderson led the 'Cats with 18 kills, while Paulus had 14 and Purcell 11. Setter Stephanie Jurivich (LaGrange, Ill./St. Ignatius) had a double-double with 43 assists and 10 digs. Nobilio led Northwestern with a match-high 19 digs, while Greenwood added 10 on her Senior Night.
Paulus hit a team-high .476 (14-4-21), while Anderson notched a .467 hitting percentage (18-4-30).
Northwestern returns to action at 6 p.m. CT Friday, Nov. 24 at No. 19 Ohio State.
