'Cats Bow Out of Big Ten Singles Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After a strong first day at the Big Ten Singles Championships hosted by the University of Michigan, seniors Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium LohbrÜgge) and Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) fell in their 3rd round matches Sunday. The event concludes the fall season for the Wildcats.
Tempke defeated opponents from Penn State and Indiana Saturday in the first two rounds, but fell to Minnesota's Andrew Osario, 6-2, 6-2.
Lock knocked off opponents from Wisconsin and Minnesota in his first two matches, but he could not hold off Justin Kronauge of Ohio State. The senior fell in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Sophomores Marc Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga./University of Nebraska-Independent Study H.S.) and Alexey Evstratenkov (Moscow, Russia/Moscow International Gymnasia), along with freshman Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and junior Juan Gomez (Mexico, City, Mexico) fell in first round matches Saturday.
Northwestern's dual season begins Jan. 12 against DePaul.
