EVANSTON, Ill. -- Five Wildcats scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough to fend off Cornell tonight as the Wildcats dropped a 64-61 decision to the Big Red in front of 3,502 people at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Tim Doyle, Sterling Williams and Jason Okrzesik -- playing in his first game in the purple and white -- led NU with 11 points while freshman Kevin Coble and senior Vince Scott chipped in with 10 each.
The game was evenly played throughout with 10 lead changes. But Cornell made the big shots down the stretch to enable them to come away with the win.
Sophomore Craig Moore had a chance to tie the game at the end, but his three-pointer from the right corner rimmed out. Earlier Moore connected on a deep three from the left wing to cut the Cornell lead to 60-58 with 1:19 to play.
After the Big Red extended its lead back to four, Moore was fouled on a three-pointer and made all three free throws to cut the lead to one with 10 second left.
Adam Gore, the 2006 Ivy League Player of the Year, scored a game-high 20 points and hit five three-pointers. Ryan Wittman added 18.
Doyle recorded a team-high eight assists while Williams and Coble led NU on the boards with seven each.
Northwestern will try and rebound Tuesday when they welcome in cross-town rival DePaul to Welsh-Ryan Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
