Recap |  Box Score |  Quotes

  • Northwestern fell to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in the Big Ten with the loss. Wisconsin, which had lost three of its last four games to Northwestern, now leads the overall series 55-32-5. The home team has won the last four games in this series. Northwestern was the last team to win at the opponents' stadium (2000). The Wildcats and Badgers will not meet again until Nov. 21, 2009 in Evanston.

  • For the second week in a row, Northwestern won the turnover battle, recording three takeaways to Wisconsin's one. Northwestern had two fumble recoveries (Marquice Cole and Adam Kadela) and one interception (Marquice Cole). The Wildcats could only manufacture three points off their three takeaways. However, all three turnovers occurred deep in Northwestern territory.

  • Quarterback Andrew Brewer, making his second career start, totaled 174 yards of total offense -- a team-best 80 yards rushing and 94 yards passing (10-of-24, 1 INT). He also scored the Wildcats' lone touchdown, a 1-yard quarterback sneak. It was his second TD of the year.

  • Running back Tyrell Sutton, who left the game temporarily in the first half with a mild concussion, finished with a career-low 18 rushing yards (8 carries).

  • Wide receiver Kim Thompson, who was playing in his second game of the year after missing the season's first four games with a broken foot, had just one catch, but it was a big play -- a nice 29-yard reception that set up NU's touchdown.

  • Northwestern added another pass sack to its season total, giving the Wildcats 13 for the season -- one more than their entire 2005 season total. Defensive end Corey Wootton picked up the sack, his team-leading third of the year.

  • For the fourth time this season, linebacker Nick Roach led the Wildcats in tackles. He finished the game with a season-most 11 tackles, including a career-high-tying 9 solo tackles (originally set against Illinois on Nov. 20, 2004).

  • Cornerback Marquice Cole had arguably his best game of the year, recording a career-high 9 tackles (career-best 7 solos) to go along with his fumble recovery and sixth career interception.

  • Safety Brendan Smith intercepted his third career pass in the second quarter, and returned it 35 yards. Smith's three career interceptions have all gone for 20-plus yards -- 23, 37 and 35 yards -- for an average return of 31.7 yards per return.

  • Wide receiver Shaun Herbert caught a pair of passes to extend his consecutive reception string to 30 games. He entered the week with the nation's eighth-longest reception streak. Herbert remained seventh and 10th on NU's respective career receptions (144) and receiving yardage (1,616) lists.

  • Freshman kickoff returner Sherrick McManis had another strong day, returning three kicks for 101 yards. One of his returns went for a season-long 47 yards, eclipsing the 45-yarder he had at Nevada. McManis came into the game with a 21.3 ypr average, the fourth-best in the Big Ten. After his Wisconsin performance, he is averaging 23.9 yards per return.

  • Place-kicker Joel Howells drilled a 22-yard field goal in the first half, giving him 17 for his career. That ties him for sixth place on NU's all-time field goals made list with David Wasielewski.
