TULSA, Okla. -- Seniors Willy Lock (Lima Peru, Markham College) and Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) advanced to the second round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships Thursday by defeating Georgia Tech's Eric Molner and David North, 8-6.
"There were no breaks until the last game," assistant coach Nick Carless said. "They are in every game because they are doing great at returning servces. They end up with good chances to break and are tough to beat. They are playing with a lot of excitement."
Earlier in the day Senior Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrügge) fell to Mississippi's Jakob Klaeson Thursday in the first round of the singles draw, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. The senior played in the main draw for the first time in his career.
"Christian had opportunities," Carless said. "He got a little fatigued late in the match, but Klaeson fought hard and is having himself a great tournament."
Lock and Christian return to the court Friday afternoon to face Georgia's John Isner and Louis Flores. UPDATE: Second round match scheduled for 3 p.m.
