Box Score

Chicago -- Kelsey Hans (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) scored on a header in the 31st minute and the 'Cats registered 15 shots, but Loyola netted the equalizer late in the second half as the Wildcats and Ramblers played to a 1-1 tie Thursday at Loyola Soccer Park.

The tie moves Northwestern's record to 8-7-2 on the year. Loyola stands at 10-5-3.

Hans put the 'Cats on the board first at the 30:42 mark on a tremendous header. Sophomore Jenny Dunn (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Louisville) found space on the right wing and launched a crossing pass. A leaping Hans struck the ball just outside the six-yard box and propelled it into the top-left corner of the net for her seventh goal of the season. With 28 goals on her career, she sits one shy of head coach Stephanie Erickson's all-time career mark of 29.

Despite opportunities towards the end of the first frame, the 'Cats went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The 'Cats and Ramblers played scoreless soccer for more than 35 minutes, but Loyola netted the equalizer in the 82nd minute. Cynthia Morote-Ariza took a shot from 20 yards that hung up in the air and curled into the top-right corner of the Northwestern net. Goalkeeper Lauren Johnston (Denver, Colo./Denver East) put a hand on the ball, but it bounced off the turf and into the goal. Freshman Jessica Palo (Ames, Iowa/Ames) had the best look at a potential game-winning goal in the final nine minutes, but the contest stayed scoreless and headed into overtime.

Junior Shannon Schneeman (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin Derham Hall) attempted to return the favor of the 20-yard strike in the first of two overtimes, but her attempt off a corner kick by freshman Zendzi Neal (Washington, D.C./Washington International) skimmed the outside of the right post and sailed out of bounds. Neither team mounted a threat after that and the 'Cats and Ramblers headed to a second overtime.

Loyola put some pressure on the Wildcats in the second overtime with back-to-back corner kicks, but the 'Cats kept the Ramblers off the scoreboard and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

"We did not play our best soccer tonight," Erickson said. "We have a tough game against Penn State coming up on Sunday and I'm sure our team will be ready to play. We still need to work on being more consistent."

The 'Cats return to action Sunday at No. 9 Penn State in their penultimate Big Ten contest.
