EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman libero Kate Nobilio (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) has been named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week, the first conference honor of her career.
Nobilio, the Big Ten's leader in conference digs with 5.33 per game, turned in another impressive effort over the weekend, not committing a single reception error in 32 attempts, which extends her streak of reception error-less matches to four (93 total chances).
Against undefeated No. 2 Penn State on Friday, Nobilio's 16 digs helped hold PSU to a .213 hitting percentage after the Nittany Lions came into the match leading the nation with a .343 percentage.
Nobilio then picked up a match-best 25 digs in an upset of No. 16 Ohio State. She had three digs in the crucial fifth game, helping pass the Wildcats to an amazing .625 hitting percentage (10-0-16) as a team.
