EVANSTON, Ill. -- True freshman Tyrell Sutton (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) was named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America team Wednesday morning in Los Angeles, capping off a string of impressive honors for the first-year running back.

Sutton, who earlier this year picked up freshman All-America kudos from The Sporting News, Rivals.com, Scout.com and Collegefootballnews.com, was named the National Offensive Freshman of the Year by TSN, Scout.com and Collegefootballnews.com. He also was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Big Ten selection.

Sutton finished his record-setting NU season with 1,474 rushing yards -- the third-best single-season figure at Northwestern. He also totaled 1,870 all-purpose yards. He led Northwestern with 18 touchdowns this year, including 16 rushing TD's.

Sutton also is receiving the national rookie of the year honor from the Touchdown Club of Columbus. He will receive that award in February.
