EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) has been named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after breaking two pool and meet records and shattering a Northwestern record at the Dallas Morning News Swimming & Diving Classic.

Grevers defeated Florida Olympian Ryan Lochte -- the same man he bested for the 2005 NCAA title -- in the 100 back with an NCAA 'A' standard of 47.16. He swam an 'A' time (1:43.66) to win the 200 back and break the pool and meet records in the event.

Grevers also bested the meet and pool records in the 200 free with an NCAA 'A' mark of 1:36.13, establishing a Northwestern school record in the process. That mark had been the oldest existing school record, previously set by Steve Steketee in 1999.

Grevers swam NCAA 'B' times in winning the 100 free (43.68) and contributing to wins in the 400 medley (3:14.85) and 200 medley (1:28.71) relays.

The honor is Grevers' second of the year and the fourth of his career. The Wildcats have won five Big Ten Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors in 2005-06, more than any other school in the conference.
