The loss to Penn State snapped a five-game win streak by Northwestern.
With 21 points, Vedran Vukusic hit the 20-point plateau for the 10th time this season. He played the entire 40 minutes for the fourth time this year.
Vukusic also moved up another spot on NU's all-time scoring list to ninth with 1,358 points, surpassing Rod Roberson (1977-81) who is now 10th with 1,347 points.
Mohamed Hachad saw his first action for the Wildcats since undergoing an appendectomy Dec. 28. He recorded nine points and five boards while playing 22 minutes in his return.
Freshman Craig Moore tallied six assists in a game for the third time this season. He also connected on three three-pointers and now has 17 treys in his last five games, an average of 3.4 per game.
Tim Doyle tied a career-high with three steals.
Penn State outrebounded Northwestern 36-25 and outscored NU 14-6 on second chance points.
Penn State now leads 17-11 in the all-time series.
