EVANSTON, ILL. -- Off to the program's best start since 1998, the women's soccer team looks to Friday's 4 p.m. home match against Central Michigan as an opportunity to keep the winning streak rolling and get a quality win over a regional opponent.

"We're pleased with our season so far," said head coach Jenny Haigh. "We've been scoring goals and finding wins on the road. I think our record should give us some confidence and a winning expectation going into this weekend. We should continue to expect good things from ourselves."

Friday's match against Central Michigan will be the first meeting between the two teams, and even though the Chippewas are out to a 1-3-1 start, Haigh and the Wildcats (5-1-0) are not taking CMU lightly.

"Central will make us earn everything we get, that's for sure," said Haigh. "This is an important game for us because they are a regional opponent and it's important to find as many wins as we can right here in our own region."

The Wildcats are building off a four-game winning streak, which includes two road victories against Big XII foes Texas Tech and Baylor and a pair of home wins at last weekend's Wildcat Classic. NU downed Oakland, 3-2 in overtime and shut out Davidson, 3-0 to claim the title.

Sophomore forward Kelsey Hans has come alive over the past two matches, having a hand in all six weekend goals en route to earning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors and claiming a spot on the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week. The last time the conference gave an NU women's soccer player the weekly honor was on Sept. 30, 2003 when Molly Greene was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

With her four goals, Hans now moves up to third on Northwestern's individual career scoring records list. She has 19 goals on her career, which ties her with Ashleigh Garmon (2001-04), Katie Hertz (1998-01) and Dionna Latimer (1995-98).

Following Sunday's loss to Cincinnati, CMU is now on a three-game losing skid. CMU has struggled not just to put the ball into the net, but to even put shots on net during its current three-game losing streak. The Chippewas have managed just six shots on goal during the last three matches, an average of just two shots on goal per game.
