MILWAUKEE -- Freshman Jeanette Lorme's (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus) second-half goal pushed the Wildcats to a 1-0 season-opening victory over UW-Milwaukee on Friday in the first game of the Sixth Annual Milwaukee Cup.

"We saw some very encouraging things today," said head coach Jenny Haigh. "The freshmen really helped us get off to a good start. There were some opening-game jitters, but what was really encouraging was that we got better as the game went on."

Lorme's goal came at the 60:55 mark. The Wildcats forced a turnover in UWM's defensive third. Freshman Jenny Dunn (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Louisville) came away with the ball and left it for Lorm. Lorm fired a shot from 20 yards and found the back of the net, far post, for the score.

Junior goalkeeper Whitney Jones (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) recorded two saves on the night.

The Wildcats take on Marquette at noon Sunday in the final game of the Sixth Annual Milwaukee Cup. The game will be played at UW-Milwaukee.
