EVANSTON, Ill. - Lindsey Jones was recently named an assistant coach for the Northwestern women's soccer program. Jones replaces Stephanie Erickson, who left to take over as head coach at Harvard.
Jones arrives in Evanston after spending the last few months as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh. She joins NU head coach Jenny Haigh and second-year assistant Brittany Oliveira.
"We are really looking forward to having Lindsey on our staff," Haigh said upon hiring her. "She brings with her both collegiate coaching experience, top-level collegiate playing experience, and rare experience as a professional player in the WUSA. Her background in these areas make her very well-rounded in the game of soccer, and we feel fortunate to benefit from that. In addition, Lindsey is a tremendous person and role model who is very driven in this field. She will be a wonderful fit for Northwestern University, and will help our program's momentum in a very positive way."
Prior to her coaching stint at Pitt, Jones spent the previous year in New South Wales, Australia where she coached in both the Paul Wade National Soccer School and the Northern NSW Soccer Federation coaching program. She also competed for the Northern NSW Pride of the WNSL.
Before her Australian experience, Jones played a combined two years in the now defunct WUSA for the New York Power (2003) and San Jose Cyber Rays (2002).
A 2002 Notre Dame graduate, Jones was a four-year letterwinner with the Fighting Irish from 1998-2001. As a defender, Jones was part of a senior class that led Notre Dame to a combined 82-11-4 overall record (.866). She helped lead Notre Dame to a national runner-up finish in 1999 and the national semifinals in 2000, and concluded her career with two goals, 19 assists and 70 starts in 96 games played. As a freshman in 1998, she earned unanimous All-Big East Rookie Team honors.
