KENOSHA, Wis. - With rain imminent, Northwestern's football team took the practice field ready to get wet Thursday morning. What the coaches, players and especially the video staff (who were roughly 100 feet in the air) did not count on was lightning.

About one hour and 50 minutes into Thursday's lone practice, bolts of lightning and claps of thunder halted the Wildcats' practice. After a 20-minute wait in the locker room, head coach Randy Walker moved practice to UW-Parkside's indoor facility. The last 40 minutes was essentially a walk-through for the offense and defense.

NUsports.com caught up with junior defensive lineman Trevor Schultz after practice to find out what is going on in the `d-line' trenches.

NUsports.com: The team has been in Kenosha (Wis.) for eight days now; how is camp?
Schultz: It's going well. We're up here working hard. There are the customary bumps and bruises, but we're all fighting through that, trying to get better one day at a time.

NUsports.com: With the loss of Colby Clark and Luis Castillo on the defensive front line, some holes need to be filled. Did you approach this season any differently than you did in the past knowing you could be asked to step in and fill one of those holes?
Schultz: The biggest thing was the summer workouts. We had 54 workouts scheduled over the summer and everybody came to every one. Along with that, I know with a young (defensive) line, we're going to have to step up and show our coaches and ourselves that we can compete. And so far I think we have.

NUsports.com: The defensive line has a couple freshmen that may see playing time this season. What do you expect from the young guys this year?
Schultz: I think guys like Corey Wootton, John Gill and Keegan Kennedy are talented young players who continue to learn. They're all big physical guys who try hard. The effort is certainly there; they just have to learn technique.

NUsports.com: What is your favorite part of Camp Kenosha?
Schultz: My favorite part of camp is probably post-practice in the locker room. Everybody kind of does their own little things -- joking around, locker room stuff.

NU is back in action tomorrow with its third two-a-day practice of camp. Friday afternoon's practice is closed. The morning practice begins at 8 a.m.
