EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore Stefanie Alde (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) recently returned from a tour of Argentina with the Bring It Promotions USA Select Team. The trip went from June 7-19 and included eight matches against the Argentine Junior National Team.
Alde was part of an under-22 squad made up of upper level collegiate players that traveled and played at sites in and around the capital of Buenos Aires to help the Argentine team prepare for its summer competitions.
"It was a great experience," Alde said. "The Argentine girls were very, very good and our team was made up of good players who were fun people to hang around. Argentina beat us six matches to two, but they have played together their whole lives while we were only together for two days before the trip."
After beginning with matches in the city itself, the squads played to packed houses in several small outlying communities.
"There were more than 2,000 people at every one of our matches in these tiny towns," Alde said. "They really love their sports. The crowds were incredible and very loud, and after the match it seemed like a million kids wanted our autographs."
Alde joined fellow Big Ten student-athletes Renata Dargan of Purdue and Rachel VanMeter of Illinois on the team. Mark Rosen of Michigan served as one of the coaches.
