EVANSTON, Ill. - Friday afternoon, the Northwestern women's lacrosse team got up 8-0 on Rutgers, but let the Scarlet Knights back to within 8-5 before pulling away at the end for a five-goal victory.

NU's Sunday opponent, UConn, had no such luck.

The top-ranked Wildcats put eight goals on the board before the game was 12 minutes old and never let up, taking a 15-3 halftime lead and rolling to a 22-6 victory over the Huskies at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex.

The win improved the 'Cats to 10-0 on the season, tying the 1983 team from the previous era of lacrosse for the best start in school history. UConn dropped to 6-3 with the loss.

"I did not say too much to the team after Friday's win, I told them I was pleased with the effort but I wanted to see us play 60 minutes," said NU head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. "We did a much better job of that today."

Did they ever. NU's onslaught was led by the usual suspects -- Kristen Kjellman, Laura Glassanos and Lindsey Munday -- and they received plenty of help.

Kjellman, a Tewaaraton Trophy candidate, set modern-era program records for assists (6) and points (12), falling one shy of the overall record in both categories. Of her six goals and six assists, four of each came in the first half.

Glassanos was also on fire Sunday, scoring five goals and dishing out three assists, while Munday -- who entered the week among the national leaders in assists and points per game -- scored twice and also had three assists. Aly Josephs scored three times, while Sarah Albrecht had a goal and three assists. Overall, nine different players scored, and every healthy player saw plenty of action.

"Kristen had a great game, but I feel like everyone stepped up their play from Friday," said Amonte Hiller. "This was about the time we got things rolling last year, and obviously I hope this is the start of something big -- we have some big games coming up in the next few weeks."

Northwestern hosts two more games next weekend, closing out the non-conference portion of its schedule. The Wildcats will play Stanford Friday at 4 p.m., and then fifth-ranked Duke comes to town Sunday at 1 p.m.
