EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern (6-6, 1-2 Big Ten) seeks to break above .500 this weekend with a road trip to 28th-ranked Tulane (8-3) this Saturday, March 5.
The Green Wave is riding a two-match win streak, most recently taking first place in the New Orleans bracket of the Conference USA Shootout last weekend by defeating USF and UAB.
One of Tulane's strong points is its doubles teams - two of which boast equally impressive 9-1 overall records. Dmitriy Koch and Alberto Sottocorno will most likely face NU's Christian Tempke and Chuck Perrin at No. 1 doubles. Ted Angelinos and Jacobo Hernandez will most likely go up against Wildcats Tommy Hanus and Adam Schaechterle. Hanus and Schaechterle have a team-best 8-4 mark this season, but have slumped recently, dropping their last two.
Tulane has been strong in doubles all year, putting up a combined record of 24-5, while sweeping the point four times. The Wave has also put together two completely perfect matches, sweeping both the singles and doubles matches against Prairie View and Texas Southern on Jan. 30.
After going 1-1 on Northwestern's road trip through Michigan last weekend, sophomore Willy Lock has moved to 15-7 overall, 9-3 in duals. Both marks are a team best.
Tempke has come on strong as of late too, going 2-0 against the Wolverines and Spartans to improve his Big Ten mark to 3-0. He is 8-8 overall, with a 6-6 record in duals.
Both Lock and Tempke have won four of their last six singles matches.
Lock and Justin Hoeveler have been the Wildcats' hottest doubles team as of late, having won three of their last four matches.
The Wildcats' trip to New Orleans will be their last competition before taking a two-and-a-half week break. Their next matches comes on the west coast at Pepperdine Wednesday, March 23 and San Diego Friday, March 25.
