SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Following a night of rumbling thunder and heavy rains, the field conditions at the Sacramento Softball Complex have necessitated the cancelation of the remainder of the Capital Classic.
The Wildcats were scheduled to return to action Sunday at 1 p.m. CT against No. 17 Oregon State. Several schools in the tournament are on spring break in the area, and Northwestern is currently attempting to schedule a make-up contest for later Sunday afternoon should the current sunny conditions dry out the playing surfaces.
Northwestern will take on Oregon State at 2 p.m. CT Monday at Sacramento State in a non-tournament related contest.
The Wildcats finish the Capital Classic as one of just three unbeaten teams in the 13-team field. Northwestern defeated Utah Valley State, 9-0 in five innings, and No. 2 Cal, 2-1, Friday during the tournament. Minnesota and the Beavers were the other unblemished squads.
No tournament champion or All-Tournament team will be named due to the brevity of the event.
Northwestern's next contest on the original schedule is a double-header at No. 22 Fresno State beginning at 8 p.m. CT Tuesday night.
