TUCSON, Ariz. -- Northwestern's offense picked up right where it left off after the opening day of the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic, powering the Wildcats to a 7-1 victory Saturday afternoon over Kansas.
The Wildcats (3-0) jumped into the lead with yet another big inning, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third. Northwestern has now scored three or more runs in five different innings over its first three games of the year.
NU would add two more in the fifth and another in the sixth while Kansas (1-3) registered its only run of the game in the top of the sixth.
Senior Erin Mobley (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) went 3-for-4 with one run scored to lead the Wildcats at the plate. Junior Kristen Amegin (West Sacramento, Calif./Elk Grove) blasted her second home run of the season, a solo shot.
Continuing to drive in runs at a red-hot pace is junior Jamie Dotson (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill), who was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and two walks. She has nine RBIs through NU's first three games.
Sophomore Megan Hinck (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) drove in and scored a run on two singles while freshman Stephanie Churchwell (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) singled twice and scored twice.
Sophomore Jessica Miller (Elberfeld, Ind./Techumseh) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double. The hit was the fourth of her career -- all four have been doubles.
Sophomore Garland Cooper (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) also had a double for NU.
Junior Courtnay Foster (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro) recorded her second complete-game victory of the season, allowing just the one run on three hits and four walks while striking out three.
The Wildcats return to action at 5 p.m. tonight, Feb. 5, against second-ranked and host Arizona.
