Wildcats Finish Seventh At Big Ten Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Northwestern concluded the Big Ten Championships Saturday in seventh place at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind. The Wildcats recorded three top-three finishes on the meet's final day.
Freshman Andrea Hupman earned her second NCAA 'A' cut of the meet with a time of 49.15 and a second-place finish in the 100 free. Her time was the second-fastest in Northwestern history.
Senior Christy Olin finished second in the 200 fly with a 'B' time of 1:59.34. Olin also captured second in the event at last year's Championships. Freshman Katie Braun took eighth place in the event with a 2:02.82.
Senior Brielle Bovee turned in a third-place performance in the 200 breast with a 'B' cut time of 2:15.70. The time was also a career-best for Bovee.
The Wildcats finished with 293 points, outdistancing eighth-place Iowa by 75. Minnesota ended up in sixth position with 314 points. Penn State won the Championship with 693 points.
Junior Katie Paglini and freshman Carrera Harris both pointed in the consolation heat of the 200 back. Paglini finished 11th with a 'B' cut of 2:01.60 while Harris was 12th with a 2:01.82.
Junior Amy Mueller broke the 17-minute barrier for the first time in her career to finish 13th in the 1650 free with a time of 16:58.86.
Senior Lori Schwanhausser swam a career-best 51.00 in the 100 free, finishing 17th in the preliminaries and narrowly missing out on the final heats.
The 400 free relay squad of Schwanhausser, Hupman, Ashley Welnhofer and Michelle Oeser took sixth place in the meet's final event.
