Wildcats Open Big Ten Play Against Wisconsin

EVANSTON, Ill. - Coming off a 5-2 loss at Harvard last Sunday, 39th-ranked Northwestern (4-2) returns home to open conference play Saturday, Feb. 12 against Wisconsin (2-2) at Noon in Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats opened the Big Ten season against the Badgers last year too, escaping Madison with a 4-3 win. Northwestern holds an all-time 54-36 advantage over Wisconsin.
Northwestern's No. 39 national ranking is fourth-best in the Big Ten, behind Illinois (5), Ohio State (17) and Minnesota (31).
Wisconsin is not ranked in the top-75, but will carry some momentum into Evanston after defeating DePaul 4-3 in the Badgers' most recent outing Feb. 1.
NU defeated DePaul 5-2 in the `Cats season-opener in mid-January.
Before their win against the Blue Demons, Wisconsin fell 4-3 to Western Michigan. Northwestern beat Western Michigan 4-3 Jan. 17.
Junior Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and sophomore Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) each have won their last three singles matches. Schaechterle now has the second-most wins on the team, currently standing at 4-2.
Sophomore Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) fell in his last outing at Harvard, but still holds a Wildcat-best 5-1 singles mark.
Following Saturday's match, the 'Cats will stay at home and welcome sixth-ranked Mississippi to Combe Tennis Center Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.
