Mike Alexandrov Completes Competition at European Short Course Championships

TRIESTE, Italy -- Junior Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) competed at the European Short Course Championships in Trieste, Italy, Dec. 8-11, swimming in the finals of the 200 breast and the 400 IM.
Swimming for his native Bulgaria, Alexandrov finished fifth in the 200-meter breast with a time of 2:08.83 and sixth in the 400-meter IM with a time of 4:10.98. Laslo Cseh of Hungary shattered the world record in the 400 IM finals by more than 2.5 seconds, finishing in 4:00.37.
Alexandrov swam for Bulgaria in the 2004 Olympic Games. His best finish was an 18th-place effort in the 400 IM.
Northwestern's men return to action Friday, Dec. 16, at the Hawaii Open in Honolulu, Hawaii.
