EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's head men's tennis coach Paul Torricelli has announced the signing of Alex Sanborn to a National Letter of Intent. Sanborn, a Houston, Texas native, will join the Wildcats for the 2006-07 season.

With 13 years of tennis experience, Sanborn brings an extensive résumé with him to Evanston. Sanborn aged out of the USTA 16's and under singles rankings in September at No. 40 nationally, No. 4 in the Texas region.

In doubles, Sanborn finished No. 1 nationally in the USTA 16's and under division.

Sanborn and doubles partner Calon Alpar have been on a tear recently, with a third place finish at the 2005 Easterbowl and a runner up finish at Clay Court Nationals during the summer.

Sanborn has led his team to consecutive conference championships, and was named All-Southwest Preparatory Conference following his junior year at The Kinkaid School.

"We are very excited about having Alex join us next year. He is a versatile, all-court player who will make a contribution right away in both singles and doubles," Torricelli said.
