EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) has earned a spot on the U.S. National A Team in the 100 backstroke based on his No. 3 spot in the latest FINA world rankings.
National A Team members have achieved a top-eight FINA world ranking in an individual Olympic event during the traditional long course season, Jan. 1-Sept. 1, 2005. There is also a National B Team comprised of those swimmers with top-16 world rankings.
Athletes remain on the team for one year following their selection.
"The National A and B teams recognize athletes who have performed at the highest level on the world stage each year," said Everett Uchiyama, USA Swimming National Team Director. "Their performances are among many great accomplishments that allow us to target support to athletes and coaches who continue our long standing tradition of being the number one swimming nation in the world."
Grevers' long course time of 54.24 ranks him third in the world in the 100 back.
