EVANSTON, Ill. -- Coming out of a brutal stretch of schedule that pitted Northwestern against five ranked opponents in its last six matches, the Wildcats host Indiana at 7 p.m. Saturday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
During that stretch of contests, NU defeated the only team, Illinois, it faced that was not ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches poll -- but even the Illini were receiving votes in the poll at the time.
Even in losses, however, the Wildcats have shown flashes of being a very good squad. NU took No. 18 Ohio State to five games and gave No. 8 Wisconsin fits in a 30-27 second game.
Saturday's match will be broadcast live with streaming video and audio commentary on NUsports.com via CSTV's All-Access. To sign up for All-Access, visit the audio/video page on NUsports.com or click on any of the All-Access buttons located throughout the site.
Senior Christie Gardner (West Bend, Wis./West Bend East) had 25 digs Wednesday against the Badgers, her season-best total for a three-game match. The number pushed her career total to 1,339 digs -- good for third-place all time at NU and just 92 digs shy of the Wildcat record.
Sophomore Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) continues to lead NU with 3.70 kills per game. Classmate Brittney Aldridge (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) paces NU with 1.11 blocks per game and a .350 hitting percentage.
Anderson ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 0.41 aces per game and ninth in the conference with her 3.70 kpg average.
Aldridge rates fourth in the Big Ten with her .350 attack percentage. Gardner's 4.52 digs per game average is good for seventh among conference foes.
As a team, Northwestern has the two best service ace totals for a match of any Big Ten school this year. The Wildcats aced Brown 16 times at the Wildcat Classic and Illinois 15 times in the squads' match in Champaign. Indiana is surrendering 1.32 aces per game this year.
The Hoosiers enter Saturday following a match Friday night at Wisconsin. Coming into the weekend, Indiana (8-10, 1-5) is the lone team in the Big Ten with a sub-.500 record.
Erica Short leads IU with 3.86 kills per game. Mandy Eberle and Annie Meddrell average 1.55 and 1.51 blocks per game, respectively, to pace the Hoosiers.
