EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern travels north to No. 8 Wisconsin for a 7 p.m. match Wednesday night, Oct. 12, marking the Wildcats' fifth match against a ranked opponent in its last six contests.
NU entered play in the Big Ten -- arguably one of the country's finest volleyball conference -- with a 9-1 record and its best start since 1987. Of the Wildcats' six losses on the season, five have come at the hands of teams ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches poll.
Northwestern took care of business in defeating the only unranked team -- Illinois, a team receiving votes in the poll at the time of the match -- it has faced during this challenging stretch of schedule.
Sophomore Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) continues to lead the Wildcats with 3.75 kills per game. Classmate Brittney Aldridge (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) paces Northwestern and is third in the Big Ten with a .363 hitting percentage on the year.
Senior Christie Gardner (West Bend, Wis./West Bend East) ranks seventh in the conference with 4.30 digs per game.
Junior Lauren Greenwood (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) and sophomore Stephanie Jurivich (LaGrange, Ill./St. Ignatius) continue to split setter duties, with Greenwood averaging 7.32 assists and 1.85 digs per game while Jurivich is dishing out 5.29 assists with 1.12 kills per game.
Wisconsin enters this midweek matchup with a 13-2 overall record, 5-1 in the Big Ten. No. 4 Penn State handed the Badgers their first conference loss in a 3-0 sweep Sunday at the UW Field House.
Prior to that match, Wisconsin reeled off nine-straight victories after a loss to then-No. 14 Missouri.
Audra Jeffers leads the UW offense with 3.45 kills per game. Sheila Shaw and Taylor Reineke form a formidable blocking combo at the net, averaging 1.69 and 1.59 blocks per game, respectively. The duo also leads the Badgers in hitting with Reineke's attack percentage at .328 and Shaw's at .325.
