EVANSTON, Ill. - Riding the momentum of two-straight wins and senior Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) being named Big Ten Athlete of the Week, Northwestern seeks to open the season 3-0 with a win Friday, Jan. 21 against Oklahoma at 6 p.m. It is the third match of a five-match homestand to open the season for the 'Cats.

The match marks the season-opener for the Sooners, who return five starters from a team that finished fifth in the Big 12 Conference a year ago.

Leading the Sooners this season is sophomore Marek Velicka. Velicka returns to action after becoming the first Sooner in 13 years to capture the ITA individual singles title by upsetting four seeded opponents last fall.

Velicka will most likely face Hanus at the No. 1 singles position.

Northwestern is 0-2 all-time against Oklahoma.

The `Cats continue their homestand next Friday, Jan. 28 against Ball State at 6 p.m. before welcoming North Carolina to the Combe Tennis Center Sunday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.
