EVANSTON, Ill. --

In the opening match of this year's Wildcat Classic, Northwestern swept Villanova, 3-0. The 'Cats got off to a fast start with a dominating 30-16 win in game one. Northwestern won the second and third games, 30-24 and 30-23, to improve to 5-3 on the year.

NU's offense was led by freshman Courtnie Paulus (Belgium, Wis./Ozaukee), who posted a team-high 13 kills. With 10 digs on the defensive end, Paulus recorded a double-double for the 'Cats. Junior co-captain Christie Gardner (West Bend, Wis./West Bend East) led a solid defensive effort by the 'Cats with 12 digs.

NU dominated Villanova in virtually every aspect of the match, winning each game by an average of nine points. Eight total blocks by the 'Cats helped force Villanova into a less-than average hitting percentage of .048.

Senior co-captain Drew Robertson did her part by verbally firing up the 'Cats while also filling up the stat sheet. She nearly recorded a double-double with 34 assists and nine digs.
