EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Head Coach Kate Drohan has agreed to a four-year contract extension, NU Director of Athletics Mark Murphy announced.

Drohan has recorded a 94-57-1 record in three seasons at the helm of the Wildcat program. She has led NU to the NCAA Tournament the last two years, marking Northwestern's first back-to-back appearances since the 'Cats qualified four consecutive years from 1984-87.

"We are very pleased that Kate has agreed to a contract extension," Murphy said. "She has done an excellent job in building our softball team into a consistent winner in the Big Ten. The future of the program is very bright under her leadership."

Drohan came to Northwestern in 1998, serving three seasons as an assistant coach under Sharon Drysdale before being promoted to associate head coach for the 2001 campaign. She and Drysdale are the only two coaches in the history of Northwestern softball.

"I am excited about the commitment Northwestern has shown to me and I'm excited about the mission of the department," Drohan said. "I believe the key components are in place in our program for us to compete at the very highest level."

In her first season as head coach, Drohan guided NU to a 24-18 record--at the time the Wildcats' fifth consecutive 20-plus win season. She followed that up with a 36-19 mark in 2003, including a second-place finish in the Big Ten.
