KENOSHA, Wis. -- On a perfect 70-degree day, the Northwestern football team completed the first of two practice sessions at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday morning.
One player every fan will have their eye on this season -- not to mention opposing offensive coaches -- is junior linebacker Tim McGarigle. NUsports.com caught up with McGarigle after practice to ask him a few questions.
NUsports.com: With the first four days of camp behind you, how do you think Camp Kenosha is going so far?
McGarigle: We're getting back at it (football), and everyone still has a lot of work to do. But we're hoping for a good year and that starts here in camp. Like Coach Walker said, when you come into camp you're always rusty and it's our job to knock that rust off and get back at it.
NUsports.com: Two years ago the defense was extremely young. This year, the defense has the potential to dominate teams. What steps have you (the defense) taken to get to this point?
McGarigle: Every man on our defense knows their responsibility inside and out, and now everyone is learning the responsibilities of others. That knowledge brings the defense together, helping everyone make their reads quicker and be in the right places at the right times.
NUsports.com: What is your favorite part of Camp Kenosha?
McGarigle: Believe it or not, it's being in Kenosha. Being out of the city and away from all the distractions, it lets us concentrate on football. With nothing else going on, being here helps us get to the place we need to be come Sept. 2.
McGarigle led the team with 140 tackles in 2003, recording one sack and six tackles-for-loss. He also intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
