KENOSHA, Wis. -- Head coach Randy Walker told NUsports.com yesterday, "that a lot of people look good in shorts."
Well, after two days in those stylish shorts, the Northwestern football team finally got to dress down and get a little more physical for day three at Camp Kenosha. Today marked the first day NU was allowed to strap on full gear, and Coach Walker was pleased with Friday morning's practice.
"I thought today went well," said Walker when asked how he felt the players took to full pads. "You (the players) need to get all the armour on and get used to carrying it. It is a little different, but they adjusted quickly and I like the way they responded.
"I thought we had a pretty good day," explained Walker about any letdown from the previous two days. "I told them after practice, today wasn't a world of perfect. But we're playing hard and doing some of the things that good teams do to win. If you play hard enough and long enough, good things will happen to you."
Playing hard enough and long enough will be the big chore tomorrow, as NU is scheduled for its first two-a-day practices. Practice number one begins at 8 a.m."Tomorrow will be a challenge," said Walker. "Two-a-day's are always demanding, but I think we have ourselvesin a place where we can handle that, being in good enough shape.
"It's just going to be a matter of playing with some focus and concentration when you get tired and worn down," continued Walker. "That's the nature of football -- good football teams play with great focus in the fourth quarter when they are worn down."
