EVANSTON, Ill. - Head coach Keylor Chan's incoming freshman class was recently ranked No. 20 nationally by PrepVolleyball.com. The six-member class also ranks fourth in the Big Ten behind Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Joining the Wildcats are middle blockers Stefanie Alde (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville/Milwaukee Sting VBC) and Brittney Aldridge (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire/Club Fusion VBC), as well as outside hitters Lindsay Anderson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier/Sky High VBC) and Courtnie Paulus (Ozaukee, Wis./Ozaukee/Milwaukee Sting VBC). Outside hitter/libero Cally Stolback (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep/Tampa Bay Juniors VBC) and libero/defensive specialist Venessa Bezik (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula/Mizuno Long Beach VBC) were also accepted to the University and will join the Wildcats as walk-ons.
The 2004 recruiting class was ranked ahead of Big Ten rivals Penn State (No. 21), Minnesota (No. 22), Illinois (No. 23), Purdue (No. 27) and Michigan State (No. 29).
"We are thrilled to have such an athletically and academically talented class coming to join us in 2004," said Chan. "My staff and I worked extremely hard to recruit these individuals and we are all excited to see them make the next step into collegiate athletics."
Northwestern opens nonconference play on Sept. 3 at the Hilton Classic in Gainesville, Fla. The Wildcats will face Florida, the 2003 NCAA runner up, as well as Miami (Ohio) and TCU in the tournament.
