Matchups Set For 2004 Big Ten/ACC Challenge

EVANSTON, Ill. - The sixth annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge match-ups have been determined, with the event once again featuring top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioner's Cup.
For the first time in three years, Northwestern will host a game as part of the Challenge. The Wildcats will meet Virginia in the final game of the series on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 8:30 p.m. (9:30 p.m. Eastern). ESPN2 will broadcast the first meeting ever between the Wildcats and the Cavaliers in men's basketball.
In fact, ESPN and ESPN2 will combine to televise every bit of the nine-game Challenge which will take place from November 29-December 1 on nine different college campuses. It marks the third consecutive year that every Big Ten/ACC Challenge game will be televised nationally in a three-day schedule (ESPN Regional Television televised one game each of the first three years).
Since 2000, these two conferences have combined to make 10 Final Four appearances, capturing three of the last five NCAA Championships. In addition, the Big Ten and ACC rank either first or second in all-time NCAA Tournament bids, victories and Final Four appearances.
NU is 1-4 all-time in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge; the Wildcats are one of just four Big Ten teams to have participated in every Challenge to date (the others are Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin).
