EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University football coach Randy Walker announced Tuesday that sophomore quarterback Alexander Webb (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) has withdrawn from Northwestern and is planning to transfer to another institution.
Webb, who joined the Wildcats in the spring of 2002, earned a medical hardship waiver in the fall of 2002 when he suffered a lacerated liver in his first collegiate game vs. TCU, and then missed the remainder of the season.
In 2003, his redshirt freshman season, Webb played in five contests and completed 16-of-33 passes for 205 yards. His best game was a 147-yard passing effort (10-of-24) against Miami (Ohio) in 2003. Webb also rushed for 37 career yards, averaging 3.4 yards per carry.
"I want to wish Alexander the very best," said Walker. "We're disappointed that things didn't work out for him at Northwestern, but he's a bright and talented student-athlete and he'll land on his feet somewhere."
Webb began the 2004 spring season second on the depth chart behind two-year starter Brett Basanez. Redshirt freshman Chris Malleo now replaces Webb on the two-deep.
