EVANSTON, Ill. -- With a large number of starters returning from last year's bowl team, Northwestern head coach Randy Walker and his staff had a good idea about who would be on the first-team offensive and defensive units heading into preseason camp in August.
The spring practices did help clear up some of the questions with the second-team units as well as determining a starter and a backup at middle linebacker. Sophomore Adam Kadela will begin the fall as the starting middle linebacker while sophomore Demetrius Eaton will be the backup. Sophomore Erryn Cobb, who began the spring in the middle linebacker mix, was moved to R-back, or the Wildcats' version of the fullback position, during spring drills.
The Wildcats will begin preseason camp Sunday, Aug. 8. The first practice at Camp Kenosha takes place the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 11. Northwestern opens the season against TCU at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2. That game will be nationally televised by ESPN or ESPN2.
