EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second time this season, Northwestern has swept the Big Ten's weekly honors. Sophomore Kristen Amegin (W. Sacramento, Calif./Elk Grove) was named the conference's Player of the Week while freshman Eileen Canney (Paradise, Calif./Paradise) was tabbed as Pitcher of the Week.

Amegin broke the Northwestern single-season record for home runs April 23 against Indiana with her eighth blast of the season. She was 3-for-5 in the series against the Hoosiers with four RBIs and three runs scored.

Amegin then toppled the Wildcats' single-season record for walks in a doubleheader with Purdue on Sunday when she drew her 28th and 29th base-on-balls of the year. For the week, the sophomore tallied three runs, six RBI and drew four walks while batting .400. Amegin is currently slugging .600 with a .463 on-base percentage on the year.

Canney posted a two-hit shutout, her second as many weekends, on Sunday against Purdue. The freshman hurler struck out 11 batters in that game, setting a career high. In Sunday's second game, Canney pitched 1.2 innings to earn her first career save.

On Friday she allowed just one run while striking out eight in a five-inning, 11-1 victory over Indiana. For the week, Canney compiled 20 strikeouts in just 13.2 innings, allowing just one run for a 0.51 ERA. Her overall record is now 15-2 with eight of those wins coming by shutout.

The awards are the first of both Wildcats' careers. Northwestern also swept the Big Ten's weekly honors on February 13th when Sheila McCorkle and Courtnay Foster earned the awards.
