EVANSTON, Ill. -- After squeaking out only four hits in the first game of its doubleheader with Purdue Sunday, Northwestern exploded for 13 runs on 13 hits in the second contest, run-ruling the Boilermakers, 13-3, in six innings.

The Wildcats used a five-run fourth and a seven-run sixth to sprint away from Purdue. The seven runs in the sixth frame were the most scored in a single inning by Northwestern this season. The 13 total runs scored are also a season-best for the 'Cats.

Down 3-1 to begin the fourth, Kristin Amegin hit a two-run double, Garland Cooper a two-run single and Katie Logan an RBI single to give NU a 6-3 lead after the inning. Jamie Dotson began the comeback with a double to lead off the inning.

In the sixth inning, the Wildcats made it ugly. With the aid of three Purdue errors, Northwestern pushed across seven runs -- all unearned -- on six hits to invoke the mercy rule. Erin Mobley doubled in the inning while Eryn Manahan, Dotson, J.C. Kira, Logan and Carri Leto all hit consecutive singles for the Wildcats.

Logan led the 'Cats at the plate with a 3-for-4 game. Mobley was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles while Dotson was also 2-for-3 in the contest. Cooper and Kristen Amegin both drove in a pair of runs to pace NU. The pair lead the Wildcats with 30 RBIs each on the season.

Diana LaRiva started the game for Purdue and was tagged with the loss. Her record is now 13-12, while Purdue falls to 28-22 overall, 3-11 in the Big Ten.

In the game, Amegin drew her 29th walk on the year to give her the single-season Northwestern record by herself.

Courtnay Foster (12-12) started the game for the Wildcats and earned the win in 4.1 innings of work. Eileen Canney, who won the first game of the doubleheader with a two-hit shutout, pitched the final 1.2 innings to earn her first career save.

Northwestern posted a 3-1 Big Ten record on the weekend, improving overall to 27-14 and 10-6 in the conference. The Wildcats return to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game at Bradley.
