CLEARWATER, Fla. - Led by an offensive onslaught and another dominant pitching performance, Northwestern pounded Rutgers 8-0 Friday to improve to 3-0 at the Speedline Tournament. Courtnay Foster allowed only one Scarlet Knight hit and recorded her third shutout victory of the season. Northwestern improves to 9-3 overall, while Rutgers fell to 4-5.
The 'Cats wasted no time offensively. Sheila McCorkle led off the first inning with a single down the left-field line and later scored on a single by Erin Mobley to give Northwestern a 1-0 lead. They would pick up another run in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Garland Cooper that scored Carri Leto, who had reached base on a fielder's choice.

The 'Cats pushed the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Leto that scored J.C. Kira, who led off the inning with a walk. McCorkle scored when Rutgers catcher Jenny Card attempted to throw Mobley out stealing second base. The throw flew into center field and McCorkle trotted home to extend the lead to 5-0.
With Foster cruising in the circle, the 'Cats ended the game early, picking up three runs in the sixth inning. Leto doubled down the left-field line and scored on a hit by Mobley in the next at-bat.
