Wildcats to Open on Thursday, Sept. 2 Versus TCU

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's 2004 season-opening football game versus Texas Christian University has been moved from Saturday, Sept. 4 to Thursday, Sept. 2 to accommodate an 8:30 p.m. Central Daylight Time kickoff on ESPN or ESPN2.
The game is being played in Forth Worth, Texas and features two teams that played in 2003 bowl games.
Following the season opener, the Wildcats return home to face Arizona State and Kansas, another 2003 bowl team, on Sept. 11 and 18, respectively. Those game times will be announced at a later date. Eight of the Wildcats' 12 games are against teams that played in 2003 bowl contests.
Northwestern then begins the Big Ten season Sept. 25 in Minneapolis against Minnesota. The Wildcats then return to Ryan Field for back-to-back games with Ohio State and Indiana. Following an open date on Oct. 16, Northwestern plays three of its next four games on the road -- at Wisconsin, at Penn State and at Michigan. The only home contest in that four-week stretch is a homecoming game versus Purdue on Oct. 30.
The Wildcats conclude the Big Ten season with the annual Sweet Sioux Tomahawk game versus Illinois at Ryan Field on Nov. 20.
Northwestern will play a 12th game, a nonconference contest at Hawaii, on Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 27).
