EVANSTON, Ill.--Freshman Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) was named CollegeSwimming.com's NCAA Swimmer of the Week for his performance last week against Michigan.
Grevers, who also picked up his second Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honor this week, set four pool records and two school records against the Wolverines on Jan. 30.
"Matt is an outstanding swimmer," said head coach Bob Groseth. "We knew when he came out of high school that he would have an immediate impact. A swimmer like Matt can really help take the team to another level."
In the 400 medley relay, Grevers came up with a split of 47.31--a school and pool record that qualified him for the NCAA Championships--in helping his team post a time of 3:15.22, which also broke a school and pool record and was an automatic NCAA qualifying time.
Grevers then anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay with a split of 42.89 en route to a team time of 2:58.53, another pool record.
Individually, Grevers won the 100 backstroke event with a time of 47.89. He also broke a Norris Aquatics Center record with a time of 1:44.30 in the 200 backstroke.
The Swimmer of the Week award is the second consecutive one for the 15th-ranked Wildcats in as many weeks, as senior Tony Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) was honored last week.
