EVANSTON, Ill. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced their Academic All-District Soccer Teams Thursday, and a Northwestern woman made the cut in District V University Division for her performance in the classroom as well as on the field.
District V is made up of all colleges and universities in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Manitoba. University Division includes all NCAA Division I institutions.
In addition to Jaro Pylypczak being named on the men's side, sophomore midfielder Shannon Schneeman (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin Derham Hall) was honored with second-team honors on the women's roster. This is Schneeman's first CoSIDA All-District honor; it marks the second straight year an NU women's soccer player has been recognized by CoSIDA (Molly Greene last year), and the third time in head coach Jenny Haigh's four-year tenure (also Susie McCreery in 2001).
In order to earn Academic All-District, one must be at least a sophomore at the school for which they play; they must carry a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20; and they must be either a starter or key reserve for their team. The teams are voted on by active members of CoSIDA.
Schneeman, whose major is undeclared, started every match in the middle for Northwestern this season. She scored five goals and had five assists--all in Big Ten play--in helping the 'Cats to a 10-8-1 mark. Schneeman set school records for goals (4) and points (8) in a match against Colorado College on August 29, and she also tied a school mark with her five assists in conference play.
The CoSIDA award marks the second honor Schneeman has received this week. On Wednesday, she was named second-team All-Big Ten by the conference coaches. Last year, as a freshman, Schneeman became the first NU player in history to be named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
