EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern is using personal bests from a number of swimmers to take a commanding lead into the final day of the TYR Invitational at the Norris Aquatics Center.

Freshman Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) swam the Wildcats' most impressive time of the meet Saturday, setting a new pool record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.05. The time was also a significant improvement over her personal-best in the event.

Also winning events for the Wildcats during the meet's first two days were Katie Paglini (Chicago, Ill./Latin School) in the 200 IM (2:04:54), Hupman in the 50 free (23.45) and Katie Braun (Edina, Minn./Edina) in the 100 fly (55.65).

Hupman, Ashley Welnhofer (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier), Katie Welnhofer (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and Michelle Oeser (Eliot, Maine/Marshwood) earned a victory in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:34.97. The 200 medley relay squad of Paglini, Jessie Bailis (Omaha, Neb./Millard North), Christy Olin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) and Hupman won in 1:45.23.

The Wildcats' 800 free relay comprised of Braun, Ashley Welnhofer, Hupman and Lori Schwanhausser (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) turned in a victory with a time of 7:30.00 flat.

Northwestern also won the 400 medley relay in 3:46.78.

"We have been getting some great performances with a number of personal bests," NU head coach Jimmy Tierney said. "Our girls have swam great especially at night and that is very encouraging to see. We hope to continue our success into tomorrow's final day."

Northwestern leads the five-team event with 746 points. Missouri is currently second with 645, Pittsburgh third with 591, Southern Illinois is fourth with 388.50 and Division III Kenyon College rounds out the field with 227.50 points.
