EVANSTON, Ill. - October 14, 2004 ESPN has announced the pickup of the Northwestern-DePaul men's basketball game, to be played at the Wildcats' Welsh-Ryan Arena on December 15. The game time will be switched to 8 p.m. from its original start time of 7 p.m., and be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
It will mark the third scheduled nationally televised appearance for Northwestern this season. The Wildcats are also slated to appear on ESPN2 against Virginia as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge (Dec. 1), and against Penn State during the Big Ten season (Jan. 22).
Northwestern finished with a 14-15 record last year, but went 8-8 in the Big Ten for its best mark in the conference since 1968. The Wildcats finished tied for fifth in the conference. DePaul, meanwhile, won a share of the Conference USA regular-season title last year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual national champion Connecticut.
The Dec. 15 game at Welsh-Ryan will be the 24th meeting between these city rivals, with the Blue Demons leading the series 17-6. Last year, the two teams met for the first time in the regular season since 1997, with DePaul winning 65-53 at Allstate Arena.
