No. 16 Northwestern Hosts Notre Dame Saturday

EVANSTON, Ill. - No. 16 Northwestern takes on Notre Dame Saturday at the Norris Aquatics Center at 2 p.m. in its final non-conference dual meet of the season. The Wildcats are coming off a dominant weekend after beating Big Ten opponent Michigan State 129-111 in a dual and then sweeping a tri-dual against Eastern Michigan and Illinois-Chicago.

A host of Northwestern swimmers rank in the top 50 in various events. Freshman Mike Alexandrov's 200 breaststroke time of 1:55.91 is the second-fasted time recorded in the country this season. He also ranks 12th in the 100 breast with a top time of 54.80.

Classmate Matt Grevers' name appears on a number of top 50 lists as well. His 100 back time of 47.64 ranks fourth in the nation, while he is fifth in both the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Northwestern boasts two additional swimmers who have recorded times good enough to crack the top 25 in the 100 fly also. Tony Swanson ranks 13th with a top time of 48.26 while Mark Hamming's time of 48.63 is good enough for 25th.

Hamming's name appears sixth in the 200 fly, 12th in the 200 individual medley and 50th in the 200 backstroke. NU's relay teams, which have been solid all season, rank among the nation's fastest as well. The 400 freestyle relay team sits at fourth, while the 200 free relay team is ranked 13th.

Saturday's dual with the Fighting Irish is the 'Cats' final tune-up before closing out their dual schedule against No. 9 Michigan and No. 24 Iowa.
